2 new student advisors appointed to the Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees

2 new student advisors appointed to the Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees
This school year, the voices of the Canutillo ISD student body will be heard loud and clear through the efforts of two new student advisors appointed to the Board of Trustees.

During last night’s regular board meeting, Jacob Lozano from Northwest Early College High School and Theodore Locklin from Canutillo High School were officially sworn in as the 2024-2025 student advisors to the board.  As they step into these advisory roles, Lozano and Locklin will collaborate with the Board of Trustees to ensure that student voices are heard in key decision-making processes and serve as representatives of the student body, bringing the perspectives, concerns and ideas of their peers directly to the district's leadership.

“We are excited to have Jacob and Theodore join us as our student advisors this year,” said Board President Armando Rodriguez. “Their appointment highlights Canutillo ISD's dedication to empowering students and involving them in shaping the future of their schools as well as providing us with valuable insights into the needs of our students.”

Lozano, known for his academic excellence and leadership at Northwest Early College High School, has been actively involved in various student organizations and community service initiatives. He currently serves as the student body president and Mock Trial vice president. He was one of only four candidates selected as a legal intern for the inaugural Scherr Law Firm internship. Lozano aspires to major in psychology and attend law school.

Locklin, a standout student at Canutillo High School, has demonstrated remarkable leadership in both academics and extracurricular activities. He serves as the linebacker and the team captain for the Canutillo High School Varsity Football Team, class president, Student Council vice president, a National Honor Society member and is a certified welder. He hopes to earn a bachelor's degree in finance, serve as an officer in the Marine Corps and eventually own his own business.

Canutillo ISD is the only district in Texas to have two student advisors sit alongside the Board of Trustees to give input and engage in discussion of the very issues that affect them and their classmates.
