Canutillo High School junior teams up to create vibrant La Nube installation
Everyone knows the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and now, thanks to the artistic talents of Canutillo High School junior Faith Delgado, El Paso has been introduced to the “Guardians of the Desert.”
The “Guardians of the Desert” is a striking art installation housed at the new STEAM discovery center, La Nube, located in Downtown El Paso and has been a labor of love for the Canutillo teen who had the remarkable opportunity to be part of a team who brought the mystical creatures to life.
“The meaning behind this piece is we wanted to put animals that were from El Paso and paint them like spirit animals,” Delgado said. “It took a lot of hard work and we had to figure out which animals we wanted to do and which designs and colors are unique to each animal.”
The exhibit, which took two years to complete, was developed through the efforts of Creative Kids, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through the arts. Delgado, along with her team under the direction of Creative Kids co-founder Stephen Ingle and director of design, Oscar Camargo, worked tirelessly to design and construct the installation, which is a vibrant representation of the desert's unique ecosystem and the role that its "guardians" play.
La Nube's STEAM discovery center serves as an innovative space where science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics converge to inspire and educate the community. The “Guardians of the Desert” exhibit is a perfect fit for this environment, offering visitors a chance to appreciate the intersection of art and environmental stewardship.
Delgado’s involvement in this project highlights the talent and dedication of CHS students, as well as the impact of programs like Creative Kids in fostering creativity and collaboration among young artists. The exhibit stands as a testament to the hard work and vision of the entire team and is sure to inspire all who visit La Nube.
“With this project, I feel I got this amazing opportunity and I am so proud of myself that all the hard work paid off and I hope there are going to be more opportunities like this in my future,” Delgado said.
