Canutillo ISD and Goodwill Industries of El Paso celebrate grand opening of Employee Development Service Goodwill Store at Canutillo High School
The Canutillo Independent School District celebrated the grand opening of the Employee Development Service (EDS) Goodwill Store at Canutillo High School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially launch the student-led initiative.
This innovative store, developed through a unique partnership between CISD and Goodwill Industries of El Paso, aims to provide special-education students with invaluable job skills and real-world experience. Students will staff the store, gaining hands-on training in retail operations, customer service and inventory management — all within a supportive learning environment.
“We are incredibly proud to be part of this groundbreaking initiative,” said Canutillo ISD Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “The Employee Development Service Goodwill store will not only empower our special-education students by providing them with essential life and job skills but will also foster a sense of independence and confidence as they prepare for their future careers.”
Goodwill Industries of El Paso, known for its mission to provide job training and employment opportunities to those facing barriers to work, is equally excited about the collaboration.
“This partnership with Canutillo ISD represents the core of what Goodwill stands for—transforming lives through the power of work,” said Melinda Jordan, CEO of Goodwill Industries of El Paso. “We are honored to support these students as they embark on their journey toward personal and professional growth.”
The store will offer a variety of goods, including gently used clothing, accessories and household items. All proceeds from the sales will be reinvested into the program to further enhance students' learning experiences and provide additional resources for their development.
A Goodwill donation bin will be housed at the Canutillo High School campus to support the training store. Donations are encouraged and welcomed. Store hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4 p.m., closed 11:30 a.m. - noon, Mon. -Thurs.
