Canutillo ISD educational aide takes on new role as DDE teacher
As a child, Ruth Flores always envisioned herself at the head of the class. This school year, her vision has come to fruition as she steps into her new role as a teacher at Deanna Davenport Elementary School upon earning her long sought teaching certification.
Flores has served as a dedicated educational aide at Canutillo ISD for the past five years, but never let go of the passion she always harbored for leading her own classroom. Her experience as an aide and commitment to supporting students inspired her to further her education and achieve her dream.
“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher but it took some time. Life takes some really weird turns,” Flores said. “Everybody at Canutillo ISD has been amazing through my whole journey and have always encouraged me to keep going and working towards my goal to teach.”
Another major motivator for Flores to lead her own class was how she witnessed the struggles adults with autism and other learning challenges faced. She was confident that if she could help guide students with similar challenges while they were young, she could have them build the confidence and independence for lifelong success.
“I told myself if I could reach these kids when they are little, I could teach them and help them grow so when they become adults they are more independent and active in the community,” Flores said.
On the first day of school, Flores proudly welcomed her students to her very own behavioral intervention classroom for grades kindergarten through second. Here, she will leverage her expertise and dedication to make a profound impact on her students' futures, guiding them towards positive behavioral changes and academic success.
Flores’ journey from aide to teacher exemplifies her unwavering commitment to education and her belief in the transformative power of dedicated teaching.
