CISD elementary schools earn high ranks at UIL competition

CISD elementary schools earn high ranks at UIL competition

Canutillo students dominated the elementary UIL competition this weekend, once again showing why CISD is the Best Small District in Texas and the region’s only Triple A Rated School District.

At the UIL competition in Tornillo, students showed their prowess in different fields such as writing, reading, presenting, spelling and dictionary usage – both in English and Spanish.

Reyes Elementary placed first in both the Elementary and Intermediate categories, while Canutillo Elementary placed second in both categories. Childress Elementary came in third place in the Elementary category while Davenport placed third in the Intermediate category.

Teams from Garcia and Damian elementary schools placed among the top 5 in the tournament in both categories.

“I want to congratulate all the students who participated and especially those who earned a top spot in their competitions,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “I also want to give a big thanks to the sponsoring teachers for not just preparing the students to do so well, but for adjusting to changing competition schedules. They are amazing!”
