Hatch Hubs will strengthen academics for Canutillo’s smallest learners

Students, parents, teachers and community members attended six simultaneous ribbon-cutting ceremonies last Saturday to officially re-launch the Hatch Hubs. The ceremonies were done as part of the CISD Pre-Kinder & Kinder Round Up events where potential early-childhood education parents toured facilities, spoke to pre-k and kinder teachers and learned more about the myriad of programs offered by Canutillo to its youngest students.
“The Hatch Hubs are one more way Canutillo ISD is showing its commitment to give our students the best possible start to their academic careers,” said Dr. Jesica Arellano, the district’s Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction. “These centers will help our teachers better understand the needs of their students and guide their lessons to achieve higher outcomes.”
The hubs, named after the bird-based mascots that are the hallmark of every campus in Canutillo ISD, are made up of seven different stations that promote independent learning and meaningful play.
The stations are:
- Imagination Nest
- Logic Nest
- Discovery Nest
- Creativity Nest
- Invention Nest
- Understanding Nest
- Sensory Nest
These stations reflect the core principles of the Reggio Emilia early-childhood educational philosophy, which emphasizes child-centered exploration, project-based learning, collaboration, relationship building, the teacher as a learning partner, parents as co-educators, and the classroom environment as a vital “third teacher.”
Pre-k and kinder teachers will use the Hatch Hubs as part of their lessons to allow students to guide their lessons and respond to the academic needs of students.
